Day 14 of 31
Be kind to people in need
He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for his Maker, but he who is kind to the needy honors him.
Talk about it
Every person is made by God, rich or poor. When we are kind to someone who needs help, we are honoring God, who made them. When we are mean to them, we are treating God, who made them, with disrespect.
Try it today
Choose one thing to give to someone who needs it: food, a toy or your time.
Ask at dinner
Who do we know that could use some kindness this week?
For the grown-up
The reason given is God as Maker: every person bears his image (Genesis 1:27). Jesus makes a related point in Matthew 25:40, and James asks us to care for people in need (James 2:15 to 16). A family project, such as packing a bag for a food bank together, lets a child see this verse with their hands.
